Dalhousie to Kaijjar to Chamba

We left Dalhousie (2036 m elevation) around noon and headed toward Kaijjar (elev 1951 m) - the mini-Switzerland of the Himalayas. We thought it was going to be a fairly flat ride, but ended up climbing a bunch before descending into Kaijjar. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to take a picture of the meadow before an hour-plus long thunderstorm rolled in and we ran for cover at the Golden Palace Restaurant. Once we ate lunch and waited for the road to clear, we headed down to Chamba (elev 996 m)

Our route to Keylong from Dalhousie

Dalhouise - Kaijjar - Chamba - Koti -Tisa - Satrundi - Kilar - Udaipur - Keylong (with stops in between, I'm sure)

Packing in Paragangh

Today we are packing and putting our bikes together in preparation for our overnight train to Patankhot, a town a the base of the western Himlaya on the Indian Plain.

Given the temperatures here in Delhi and Patankhot (105F +), we will likely bus up to the first pass at Dalhousie (elev 1600m) and then bike triumphantly downhill into Chamba, our first stop (1000m). The temperatures should be bareable enough to set out from there - as things are looking up!

For pictures of our first pass, Sach Pass, you can visit yogeshsarkar.com, http://otbiking.wordpress.com/2008/01/05/sach-pass-2007-photos/, or google 'biking Sach pass'.

We still have several days before we reach there, and hopefully we will be able to update the blog before then, too. More to follow!!!
